Five Questions for this upcoming Boston College hockey season.

Question One- With the loss of C.Atkinson, B. Gibbons, J. Whitney and J. Hayes, who needs to step it up for the Eagles this year?

My Opinion- Unlike last year, this year BC is going to need to spread the scoring around. Were not going to have one or two dominant lines. Were going to have three very deep lines, all consisting of players with speed, skill, and hockey intelligence. The first line is really going to be big for BC this year. It will probably be something to the likes of Krieder, Mullane, Hayes. These guys really need to be big. In my opinion, I think Kreider will be a STAR this year. He has been overshadowed by the "dynamic duo" of Atkinson and Gibbons. Now is his time to shine, and if he can pick it up on the defensive end, he most definitely won't disappoint.

Question Two- Is the Freshman class going to have a big role ?

My Opinion- Usually at BC, Freshman are not your typical standout players. Instead, it's the upperclassmen.  Last year two freshman really caught my eye, Bill Arnold and Kevin Hayes. Mainly  because they were offensive powerhouses. Both scored two of BC's biggest goals last year, (Arnold in Beanpot), (Hayes in Hockey East Championship. As I was watching practice today, one thing stood out. How many Freshman were on the ice, eight to be exact. One guy really stood out to me and I believe he could have a big impact on Boston College hockey. That man would be John Gaudreau. He was quick, looked like he could shoot the puck, and was dishing it real well out there.

Question Three- Is BC deserving of preseason #1 in Hockey East ?

My Opinion- Heres the thing, it's one of two teams. Its BC or BU, and due to BU's struggles the last two years, it seems like the right thing to do in giving it to BC. Not to mention, BC's team this year is going to be pretty good and so is BU. To all those Merrimack, Maine,UNH, fans out there....its going to be one of these two im sorry, you know it. It always is. No one else ever wins.

Question Four- Could Notre Dame join Hockey East ?

My Opinion- They could. I really hope they do and heres why. This would be great for not just BC hockey, but for BC as a whole. Having Notre Dame for not just a football rival, but for a hockey rival is great. In football, we are no Notre Dame, but in Hockey you know the students will come out to watch and it would have the atmosphere of a BC BU game ( Well sort of, nothing beats BC BU hockey)

Question Five- Everyone is wondering about BC's goaltending. Will it be an issue ?

My Opinion- Not at all. Just two years ago, Parker Millner was starting some games over John Muse. Milner did have a bad outing vs NU in his last appearance, but he has the experience between the pipes and that is big for a new fulltime goalie to have. Trust me, BC goaltending will be fine, in my opinion it will be one of the best in Hockey East behind Merrimack and Providence.

Preseason polls come out.

In the last week, USCHO and Hockey East came out with their preseason polls. In Hockey East here is what the coaches voted...

1. Boston College

2. Boston University

3. UNH

4. Maine

5. Merrimack

6. Vermont

7. Umass

8. Northeastern

9. Lowell

10. Providence

In the USCHO.com poll, BC was ranked 5th in the country. They may be a little high for BC, but after watching a few skate arounds, this Eagle team looks fast, very fast. I was impressed with some of the Freshman most notably Johnny Gaudreau ( The guy we took from NU)

BU player Andrew Glass brother missing in Boston

Matt Glass, brother of BU forward Andrew Glass has gone missing in the Boston area. He is known to be in the Northeastern campus area two nights ago. My thoughts and prayers go out to Andrew Glass and his family as they go through this tough time.

*  UPDATE-Matt Glass has been found in Dedham, MA

What is the state of Boston College Athletics right now ?

For those of you that watched BC's football get embarrassed at home vs a team that hasn't had a winning record this decade you may ask the same question that I am.....what is the state of Boston College athletics.
First of all, we need to get rid of Gene Deflippo. This guy continues to throw basketball and football in reverse, and does not give Jerry York and the hockey team the credit it deserves. Now this is a hockey blog, but Frank Spaziani needs to get out. His defensive stinks and we need an offense. I like the way basketball is headed, I really like the hire of Steve Donahue, and I think it will be just a couple years before BC gets good at basketball again. Right now at BC, there is only one real good men's athletic team. Im not saying this because im a BC hockey guy, im saying this as a BC athletics fan. Gene Deflippo needs to get out of Chestnut Hill, he would be a great fit at BU because he doesn't know how to run an athletic program. I was embarrassed just being an eagle fan at that game today, losing to Duke in football. BC is better then that, that performance out their by players, coaches, and most definitely the athletic director are just pathetic, someone has to step up, Depflipos gotta go.

Takin a look at...The Boston College Eagles

At last, we have arrived. The golden standard of Hockey East and some would say college hockey. Boston College hockey. After hearing that J.Hayes, C.Atkinson, Gibbons, and Whitney were all out the door many Eagle fans including fans including myself became worried. One thing I have learned through all the BC games I have watched and the team I have seen, when Jerry York is your head coach, you don't need to be worried. The Eagles return stars Brian Dumoulin, Chris Kreider, Kevin Hayes, and Pat Mullane. These guys are sure to have an impact on how BC fares this season. As these guys go, is how BC will go. People keep taling about BC's goaltending, don't be worried. If things don't work out with Parker Millner, BC has a great recruit in Brad Barone (Medfield, MA) coming in. This is going to be a season with a lot of up's people just trust me, this is as  young, and talented team BC has had in a while. Now for predictions, like I said earlier, its the going to be one of the Green Line boys, BC or that other place on Comm Ave.  All of us on Chestnut Hill hope it's the Eagles and it probably will be considering BU hasn't beaten us since Frozen Fenway. Just a month away ladies and gentlemen. GO EAGLES.

Taking a look at....The UNH Wildcats

Last year UNH had once again a pretty good season as they made the NCAA's and almost to the Frozen Four. Say what you want about Dick Umile and UNH hockey in the postseason but the bottom line is that they are very consistant. They always seem to be in the Hockey East regular season hunt, always in the hunt for a Lamorilleo Trophy and always in the NCAA's. Last year UNH had arguably the best line in all of the country with Phil Desimone, Paul Thompson and Mike Sislo. Sadly for the Cats, but good for the Eagles and the rest of Hockey East (except BU because we don't want BU to beat anyone)  all of those superstars are out of Durham due to graduation. I believe This year for the Wildcats looks bright but this is a experienced Cats team that could be in the hunt for yet another Hockey East tournament championship and a NCAA bid. UNH's other big lost is a D with the lost of Blake Kessel to the Philadelphia Flyers. The big guns that return to Durham will be Stevie Mosses, John Henrion, and goalie Matt Di Girolamo. I believe UNH will be a threat in the league but will be just outside the "big two" this year.

Key Looses- DeSimone, Sislo, Thompson, Kessel

Key Returnees- Henrion, Mosses, Di Girlonimo

Prediction-Third in Hockey East, miss NCAA's

10 years: Remembering Welles Crowther

9/11 was supposed to be a regular day at work for BC grad and former Lacrosse player Welles Crowther in the World Trade Center's South Tower. Here how his heroics helped save the lives of many people in the burning tower that day. RIP Welles and other 9/11 victims, you will never be forgotten.

Taking a look at.....That other team

Now you know I really don't want to do this but I have to. Lets take a look at the 2011-2012 Boston University Terriers. This year the Terriers are predicted by many to be the best in Hockey East and in some cases, the country. I do believe BU will be good, but best country ? hold your horses. They lose their best defenseman in David Warsofsky, and arguably their best forward in Joe Perriera. BU people will tell you how good Millan is, but everyone outside that side of Comm Ave knows he is horrible. The way he puts his gloves to mask when a shot comes at him means just one thing, he is scared. It is hard to play hockey with a scared goalie. Yes, BU does return Coyle, Connolly, Nieto, Chassion, and Clendining but are those guys really that good ? not a chance. BU and BC will battle out for the number one slot in Hockey East all year but in the end, I think it will be talent, goaltending (yes Parker Milner or Brad Barone over Kerrian Millan), and coaching that will put the Eagles ahead of the Terriers. Thats it short and sweet, I can't write about those guys.

Key Losses-Warsofsky,Perriera

Key Returnees-Coyle,Clendining, and Nieto

Prediction-Second in Hockey East. Loose to BC in Hockey East Finals. Make NCAA's
