Eagles edge Terriers 3-2

The Boston College Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play and never looked back Friday night against rival BU at Agganis Arena. BC had goals from sophomore Steve Whitney, Senior Brian Gibbons, and sophomore Brian Dumolin. The Terriers got two back in the second with goals by Garrett Noonan, and David Warsofsky. Led by 25 saves by Senior goaltender John Muse, the eagles showed why they have the best penalty Kill in the country going 8 for 9 on the PK. The PK was great but BC was taking way to many stupid penalties including an interference Brian Gibbons, and boarding on Tommy Cross. A strength on the PK was how many great combinations BC has when they need to kill a penalty, led by Jimmy Hayes, Cam Atkinson, Joe Whitney, and Gibbons BC was able to prevent to much damage when BU was on a PP. BC did have two power play goals in the first period the first goal came on even strength. Coming down on a 3-2 Paul Carey dished a pass to Steve Whitney  who beat Millian top right from the top of the circle at 4:38 into the opening period. The second goal which was a PP goal came on a bad change by BU at their own blue line. BC then went down on a 3-0 with the always so deadly combination of Cam Atkinson, Brian Gibbons, and Paul Carey. Carey dished it to Atkinson who then gave it to Gibbons who was waiting at the left post to make it a 2-0 Eagle lead at 4:10 of the first. The second PP goal for The Eagles came off the stick of Brian Dumolin who ripped one from the top of the point past Millian for the eventual game winner.  After a bad second period where BU scored two goals BC came out flying in third period. The D for the Eagles had arguably it’s best period all year. Led by a very strong defensive performance by Pat Wey, The Eagles were able to get the puck out of the zone and transform that into some quality chances on Millian. One defenseman that did not have his best night was Tommy Cross, yes he is coming off a bad knee injury but he took a stupid penalty and did not play very well in his own zone. Even though he has had a couple tough games, when fully healed from the injury Cross should be that force once again on the Eagle Blue line. In the end, this was a big win for Coach York’s crew coming of a bad performance at Maine. BC picked up an always sweet win at BU. BC’s next game is tomorrow night at home vs Lowell at 7 PM.
NOTES-  BC improves to 7-2-1 all time at Agganis Arena.
Coach York is just 1 win away from 400 all time at The Heights.
John Muse is 8-4-2 vs BU.
BC will play BU at least one more time this year in the opening round of the Beanpot, Feb 7, at 8:00.
