Previewing the Northeastern Huskies
When the 2011-2012 schedule came out, this weekend was one of those weekends that really stood out to me. Before the big game on Sunday, BC must take care of business vs a struggling Northeastern squad. NU was able to tie Merrimack at Lawler Arena on Friday, but blew a lead at home on Saturday, losing to the Warriors by a score of 3-2 in Overtime. NU has just one Hockey East win on the season (a 4-0 win over UNH), but have played tough vs some really good teams (almost beat BC three weeks ago). The Eagles meanwhile are coming off a bad performance @ UMass and are looking to comeback with a strong effort vs NU. With NU badly needing a win and BC having one of it's biggest games of the year on Sunday, the Eagles cannot afford to overlook this young, but talented Huskie team. If BC gives that solid effort they gave vs Maine, gets good goaltending, and stays hungry, they should be able to beat the Huskies.
Players to watch out for- Justin Daniels (5 G, 2 A), Vinny Sapronari (1 G, 6A), Mike McLaughlin (2 G, 3 A). Goalie Chris Rawlings was very solid last time out vs the Eagles with thirty nine saves vs BC.
Keys for the Eagles
1. Give a solid effort for sixty minutes of play. This has been a little bit of a problem so far this year, BC needs to give a consistent effort throughout the game to avoid getting beat.
2. Get traffic in front of Rawlings. Rawlings has looked a little shaky as of late, and gets rattled when opposing players are in his way. Get to the net, get shots to the net. When you get pucks to the net, good things occur.
3. Avoid penalties. Once again, this is a team that BC should beat if they stay out of the box. NU's PP is ranked last in Hockey East, but they did have a PP goal last time out vs BC. Penalties were part of the reason BC lost vs UMass.
Last time out- Boston College defeated NU 4-3 in OT on 10/22 @ Matthews Arena.
Prediction- BC hasn't lost two in a row since the Denver Cup in January of 2010. It's not happening here. BC 6-2.
Countdown- T Minus three days till Terriers Eagles.
