Wow. That's what I said walking out of the Mullins Center tonight after UMass upset BC. After BC scored a quick PP goal early in the first, it was all Minutemen. UMass forchecked hard on BC tonight, causing those blue line turnovers that I said needed to be avoided. After the best effort of the year vs Maine, BC just decided to shut it down in Amherst. UMass put great pressure on the Eagles and the best thing they did all night, was limiting the grade A chances for BC. The Eagles had very few grade A chances on UMass, and when they did, UMass goalie Kevin Boyle was there for the stop. This is not one of those killer losses for BC, but it stings. While we are still first in Hockey East and will still be in the to five in the country, another bad outing leaves a bitter taste in my mouth heading into a weekend in which the Huskies and That Other School come to Conte.
Why BC lost
1. Penalties. As I said last night, if BC takes to many stupid penalties tonight, UMass will take advantage and will have a chance to win the game. Eight PP for UMass = win for the Minutemen.
2. Defensive Zone play. UMass did a great job of not giving BC anything. BC had to work just to clear the puck out, and it warred us down and we got tired and eventually lost.
3. UMass wanted it more. UMass deserved that game, they were all amped up to have the best team in the country come into their rink, and they got it done. We didn't.
Positives
1. I thought the PP worked it around pretty good tonight. Couple missed opportunities in the second and the third were key stops for the Minutemen.
2. I really didn't think Parker Milner was bad. He allowed three goals, but made some key stops when he needed to.
Next Game- Friday @ Conte vs Northeastern. SUNDAY VS BU.
Note- The women's defeated BU on Saturday night. Always great when the Eagles defeat the Terriers.
BU woman won on friday, lets call it even
